Favorite Picks: Sotheby's NY: Important 20th Century Design

. Wednesday, May 23, 2012

The finest works of 20th and 21st Century design and decorative arts coming to the market as all the major auctions houses prepare a strong finish to the 2012 Spring/Summer season.

A couple of days ago I took a look at Sotheby's Paris auction, but now let's take a look at their New York event: Important 20th Century Design.  These are my favorite picks:

Gerrit Rietveld's rare and important Aluminium Stoel, one of only 4 that were handmade by Rietveld, and the only one to remain in private hands.

A pair of sleek aluminum Art Deco table lamps by Donald Deskey.

Pewter and ebony candelabrums by Kem Weber.

A rare lidded bowl by Marianne Brandt.

A fine Art Deco desk and chair in silver and black lacquer by Paul Frankl.

A pair of rare steel and cane PK22 lounge chairs and a rare variation of the PK27 coffee table, both by Poul Kjaerholm.

An industrial Model 405 dining table by Jean Prouve in beautiful green enamel.

A magnificent sideboard and Minguren I side table by George Nakashima.

A Wishbone chair by Arthur Espenet Carpenter.

A selection of sculptures by Harry Bertoia.

A rare set of earrings and brooch by Louise Nevelson.

A unique sculptural wall mounted cabinet by Paul Evans.

Auction takes place June 13th, see the full preview here.
